THE MULLEYS MACHAKOS HALF MARATHON ENTERS ITS 4TH YEAR IN 2014.
This race is recognized by ATHLETICS KENYA as the only official race in the South Eastern part of Kenya. The launch of the marathon & registration will be August at the MACHAKOS PEOPLE’S PARK.
This is a competitive and a compassionate race as the theme still remains "_EDUCATING HIV/AIDS ORPHANS”. _We are in partnership with TUMAINI INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION (TIO), a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that sponsors education for children who have been orphaned through the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Tumaini started its work almost 12 years ago and operates in the Machakos, Makueni and Kitui Counties although they do have a few children in the program from other parts of the country. Since its inception, Tumaini has made a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of families in the wake of the AIDS pidemic. So far they have supported over 1500 children, with over 1200 still in the program.
Despite these modest gains, we still have thousands of orphaned and vulnerable children in our backyards that can benefit from sponsorship by Tumaini. We are excited this year to raise funds to support the work of Tumaini.
As a result of funds from our past year's events, PETER MULEI MACHAKOS ROAD RACE 2O13 & 2014 managed to sponsor 10 children from Tumaini International Organization from form 1 through form 4 who joined high school last year and this year respectively.
Our commitment is to carry out this event annually and support Tumaini's education project. Potentially, hundreds and thousands of AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children will be helped in the months and years to come. This is a very exciting venture for us and we truly would like you to consider participation.
This exciting event will be held on 5th _OCTOBER, 2014 _ in Machakos County. This year we are targeting 5000 participants across all categories i.e.
- 3 Kms family & fun run
- 5 Kms Children & Elderly
- 10Kms Team event
- 21Kms Elite runners
There will also be prizes (cash awards worth 600,000) given to the winners at various levels for both men and women.
This is a fully sponsored event and HERE IS WHERE YOU COME IN. We endeavor to be successful in impacting on the lives of needy children at Tumaini and award prizes to encourage the upcoming generation of Kenyan runners.
